Through the Eyes of a Butterfly (story snippet)

“Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh……… “ A tickling sensation catches my attention and I hold my head steady to greet the Butterfly who’s landed delicately on the tip of my nose. Pausing, I smile as I breathe in her incredible beauty.

Our eyes meet and for a moment I am mesmerized by her yellowy green gaze. With the gentle motioning of her antenna’s, she beckons me to join with her as she ventures out to nourish herself under the early morning suns rays.

My heart leaps excitedly as I accept the butterfly’s invitation. Closing my eyes tightly I bring all my focus on to becoming “one” with her vibrant form. My body flutters as the sensory hairs that cover her body are activated by my presence.

“Whoooooooooooah” I scream in giddiness, as my eyes swirl to adjust to her expansive visual field. My vision is a little hazy at first as I settle in to her body and begin to see the Forest through the eyes of this majestic Wing-ed One.

Stretching out both my arms, I imagine her wings to be my own. My stomach does summer salts as it gets used to taking on the new form.

With every flutter of her wings, I feel her movement permeating through my body, until before I know it, her wings are my own and are moving graciously through the air, rising and falling as I drink in the nectar from the blossoms of the Calendula flowers.

Wooooooooooooh”… Watch out butterfly my friendthat was far too close to the stems of those Grass Trees” I laugh as I raise my wings high to fly along the lowlands of my home land, breathing in all the smells and perfumes from the different pollens and flowers as my body brushes past them.

“Heehehehehehehehehe…..

“Ahhhh such a treat to see the Forest through the eyes of a butterfly” I think to myself, as I wind my way back to where I was lay nearby the Squiggly Gums.

I smile down on the river Regina, nestled between the Eastern and Northern borders of the Forest. Such an impressive sight as I circle over from above. The gateway to places ‘Otherworldly’, this has long been my home.

With the Critters as my companions, I’ve spent most of my 17 years seeking wildish and outlandish adventures. And just like with the butterfly, I have attuned to many of the winged and earth dwelling forest folk here. They are the closest things I have to “Kin”.

Long have I been blessed by the ancient gifts of the ‘Wing-ed Ones”.

“Wooooooooooooooo” I glide back into my own body again, taking a moment to let my eyes adjust. Still feeling the buzz from my moment of flight, I place my hand onto the River rocks, noticing the weight I feel as I land back into my flesh like form land again

What a ride!
